Shobha Devi

Driving change

As human beings, everyone should help others, live happily and make others happy.

After her husband's accident - he broke his leg in a tree fall in 2015 - Shobha Devi found herself forced to work to support her family. One day, seeing two women from her village being trained to drive e-rickshaws, she said to herself, “Why not me?”

By joining Karuna-Shechen's training program, she was able to acquire her own vehicle. Today, after ten years' service as an e-rickshaw driver, Shobha enjoys real economic independence, which has enabled her to own her own home. Despite the criticism and persistent stereotypes associating her profession with a masculine world, she has managed to turn these prejudices into a strength, demonstrating courage and determination.
